Thanks for the article. Those are three good points to think about. I am not as optimistic as you are. The Republican party has become a party of cowards who will go along with anything the administration does. The Democratic party seems to be too worried about how to peel off a few voters to stand up to things forcefully. That said I still have hope (if not optimism).

I'm not optimistic on the situation in Washington this year. The midterms should flip at least one house of Congress, and shake up the Democratic Party too. That will make 2027 different, but Trump and Co. will still be in the White House, another year into unchecked abuse of power.

My optimism comes from two things: the American people aren't into this, and the Trump people aren't good at consolidating authoritarianism. That doesn't mean things are okay — far from it — but I do think it means we get out of this

Thank you for the article. I am always happy to hear some optimism….it is my “natural” state but I recognize we are facing more bad times ahead. And I agree that this administration could have made themselves more popular but trump can’t help his petty nature so he just has to punish people. And I agree that had they been smarter in some of the moves they made, their poll numbers would not be so abysmal. Maybe the expression “hoisted on their own petard” might be appropriate here. Anyway, I am now a subscriber and am happy to have a new follow.

Not hoisted by their own petard yet, but moving in that direction. Hopefully it keeps going.
